The immune system is a complex network of cells and proteins that defends the body against any form of illness or infection.

The immune system works by detecting foreign substances called antigens in the body and getting rid of them.

It also keeps record of every foreign substance or antigen defeated so it can recognize and defeat immediately it revisits the body.

Citrus fruits function properly in boosting one’s immune system, maintaining one’s connective tissues (collagen), reducing the risk factors that cause heart disease, tightening and maintaining the integrity of the endothelial barrier in blood vessels during inflammation.

Fruits that can boost your immune system are;

1. Orange
2. Grapefruit
3. Kiwi
4. Papaya
5. Strawberry
6. Tangerine
7. Clementine
8. Lemon
9. Lime
10. Blueberry
11. Apple
12. Pear
13. Kakadu Plum
14. Acerola cherry
15. Guava

These fruits are all citrus fruits – they contain vitamin C. A diet rich in vitamin C is a step towards achieving a healthy life.

In achieving a healthy and disease-free life, there are three (3) more steps to be taken, which are;

Exercise:

Regular exercise is not only for building muscle, it is also an avenue to build a healthy life by supporting your immune system.

Research has proven that exercise helps boost the body overall circulation, making it easier for immune cells and other disease-fighting molecules to move around the body easily.

Ensure you exercise regularly.

Water:

Lymph, fluid in the circulatory system that carries infection-fighting immune cells around the body is made up of water.

Dehydration will lead to a slow down in the movement of lymph, this will result in the free passage of disease and infection into the body system.

Take at least 10 glass of water in a day.

Rest:

Stress has been linked to various health disease and infections as well as suppressing the ability of the immune system.

When a human body is stressed, the body releases a stress response; this stress response suppresses the immune system. This action increases the chances of catching an infection or illness.

Ensure you get at least 8 hours of sleep daily and rest when necessary.
