Celebrating World Health Day 2021

World Health Day is celebrated annually to mark the anniversary of World Health Organization (WHO) which founded in 1948.

Each celebration is targeted at drawing attention to a particular health concern or issue.

For 2021, the World Health Day celebration is targeted at addressing equal and quality health need or attention for everyone.

In 2021, the celebration was held on 7th April.

Theme For World Health Day 2021

The theme for World Health Day in year 2021 is “Building a Fairer, Healthier World.

World Health Organization (WHO) spoke on the reason behind choosing the theme, “Building a Fairer, Healthier World”.

They made the public understand that all over the world, some people struggle to make ends meet with little daily income, have poorer housing conditions and education, fewer employment opportunities, experience greater gender inequality and have little or no access to safe environments, clean water and air, food security and health services.

They mentioned that all of these leads to;

1. Unnecessary suffering
2. Avoidable illness
3. Premature death
4. Harm to the society and economy.

The World Health Organization (WHO) used COVID-19 as an example, stating that it hit all countries but had more impact on countries or communities with substandard or poor health care system.

The poor health care system made these communities get more exposed to the virus and unable to implement measures that will contain the pandemic.

The World Health Organization (WHO) sat and concluded that it is only proper that every individual has a living and working condition that is conducive for their health.

A call has been put out to all leaders in the world asking them to put health inequalities in check and ensure that every individual has access to quality health care services when needed.
