Steps on How to Verify Google My Business With Google Search Console

Verifying your Google My Business (GMB) listing with Google Search Console (formerly known as Google Webmaster Tools) can provide additional benefits and insights for your business’s online presence. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to verify your GMB listing with Google Search Console:

Step 1: The first step in verifying your Google My Business listing is to sign up for an account. If you already have a Google account, you can use it to sign in. Go to https://www.google.com/business/ and sign in with the Google account that you used to create and manage your GMB listing.

Step 2: After signing in, you will be taken to the Google My Business dashboard. If you have multiple listings, select the one that you want to verify with Google Search Console.

Step 3: In the left-hand menu, click on “Info” to access the information settings for your GMB listing.

Step 4: Scroll down to the “Add profile short name” section, which is an optional feature in GMB that allows you to create a shortened, customized URL for your business. This step is not necessary for verifying with Google Search Console, but it’s good to be aware of this feature.

Step 5: Under the “Info” section, locate the “Website” field, and click on it to access the website URL associated with your GMB listing.

Step 6: Copy the website URL that is displayed in the “Website” field. This is the URL that you will need to use for verifying your GMB listing with Google Search Console.

Step 7: In a new browser tab, go to https://search.google.com/search-console and sign in with the same Google account that you used to sign in to your GMB account.

Step 8: In the Google Search Console dashboard, click on the “Add Property” button, and paste the website URL that you copied from your GMB listing into the URL field. Click on the “Continue” button to proceed.

Step 9: Google Search Console provides several methods to verify ownership of a website. Choose the “Domain” or “URL Prefix” method, depending on your website setup. Follow the instructions provided by Google Search Console for the verification method you selected. This may involve adding a meta tag, uploading an HTML file, or making DNS changes to your website.

Step 10: After completing the verification process, wait for Google Search Console to confirm the ownership of your website. Once the verification is successful, you will see a message in Google Search Console indicating that your website is verified.

Step 11: Return to your Google My Business dashboard in the original browser tab.

Step 12: Under the “Info” section, you should now see a “Verify Now” button next to the “Website” field. Click on the “Verify Now” button to initiate the verification process with Google Search Console.

Step 13: In the verification window that appears, select the “Verify by URL prefix” or “Verify by domain name” option, depending on the method you used to verify your website in Google Search Console. Click on the “Verify” button to confirm the verification.

Step 14: Google My Business will now check the verification status with Google Search Console. It may take a few minutes or longer for the verification process to complete. Once verified, you will see a confirmation message in your GMB dashboard.
