What is a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Score?
Canada uses the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to rank skilled worker candidates who want to immigrate to Canada through Express Entry. The CRS awards candidates a score based on criteria such as their age, education, language skills, and work experience.
The points you get from the CRS include a core set of points up to 600 and a set of additional points of up to 600. Your total score will be out of 1,200.

CRS Score Breakdown
Individuals must first be eligible for one of the following programs before being issued a Comprehensive Ranking System score:
1. Federal Skilled Worker Program
2. Federal Skilled Trades Program

Human capital:
The human capital factor comprises 5 factors, Age, Level of education, first and second language ability and Canadian work experience.
Age: Single candidates may receive up to 110 points for age in their complete Ranking System score, whereas candidates with a spouse or partner may receive up to 100 points for age.
Level of education: Single candidates may receive up to 150 points for level of education for their Comprehensive Ranking System score, whereas candidates with a spouse or partner may receive up to 140 points for level of education for their Comprehensive Ranking System score, with 10 points for their spouse.
First language ability: This exam assesses a candidate’s capacity to communicate in English through speaking, writing, reading, and listening. A single candidate can earn up to 136 points (34 X 4), whereas a candidate with a spouse or partner can earn up to 148 points (324 X 54).
Second language ability: The second language ability is a test that assesses a candidate’s ability to speak, write, read, and listen in French. For a single candidate’s second language proficiency, up to 24 points are attainable. Even if they receive CLB 9 or better in all abilities, candidates with a spouse/partner “max out” their points for second language ability at 22 points. The spouse/partner is only evaluated in the language in which he or she was born.

Skill transferability:
When an applicant performs well in two areas, Education and Non-Canadian Work Experience, skill transferability points are awarded.
Even if a candidate qualifies for more or all points across all associated variables, they can only be awarded up to 100 points for skills transferability.

Additional factors:
For each applicant, the maximum amount of CRS points allowed for these additional considerations is 600.
These additional factors include provincial nominations gained through Express Entry, valid job offers, Canadian study experience, siblings in Canada, and/or French language ability.
