All around the world, Christians celebrate Easter with special church services, music and also with family.
How Easter Celebration Started
In the Bible, we read that Sanhedrins (a council of priests and lay elders) arrested Jesus during the Jewish Passover festival.
They got him (Jesus) arrested because they were threatened by his Bible teachings, they got Pontius Pilate to try him for blasphemy.
Pontius Pilate tried Jesus and sentenced him to be whipped and crucified by the Romans.
The Romans went ahead with Pontius Pilate judgement, they stripped Jesus off his clothes, nailed him to the cross, whipped him till he bled profusely, spat on him and offered him vinegar mixed with myrrh when he said he was thirsty.
After so much torture, Jesus died.
His body was removed from the cross and buried in a tomb.
On the third day, Mary Magdalene visited the tomb and saw that the stone covering the tomb entrance had been rolled away.
She left the empty tomb and ran to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him”
Peter and the other disciple ran to the tomb to see, the other disciple ran ahead of Peter so he got there first. When he got to the entrance, he bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there.
Peter arrived as well and went straight inside the tomb, he saw the strips of linen lying there, as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’s head, the cloth was still lying in its place, separated from the linen.
Finally, the other disciple who reached the tomb first also went inside, he saw that Jesus was not there.
The disciples went back to where they were staying but Mary stood there and wept.
She looked into the tomb and saw two (2) angels in white seated where Jesus body was kept, one at the head and the other at the foot.
They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?” “They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.”
She turned back and saw Jesus standing, she didn’t know it was Jesus.
And Jesus asked her why she was crying and who she was looking for, she mistook him for the gardener and said “if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him”
Then Jesus said to her, “Mary”, she turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).
Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father, go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
Mary Magdalene went to the disciples and told them she has seen the Lord, she also told them all what he had said to her.
Later in the evening, Jesus appeared among his disciples at where they were assembled.
This occurrence made Christians all over the world to celebrates their belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
It usually begins with Lent—a 40-day period of fasting, prayer and sacrifice that ends on a day before the resurrection of Jesus.
