How To Preserve Carrot In 3 Ways

Ever wondered how to store and preserve your carrots for the next use?

You are in the right place.

Most people like fresh carrots but sometimes it might be difficult and stressful to get carrot for every use, I mean going to the market or supermarket to buy carrot whenever you want to eat it or use for other purposes.

In cases like this, it is best to buy carrots that can last longer than a one-time usage one.

When these carrots are bought in large quantity, they can get spoilt if not properly stored and preserved.

There are 3 major ways to preserve carrots and stop them from spoiling and I’ll be mentioning them in the next section.

3 Ways To Preserve Carrot

The 3 major ways used in preserving carrots are as follow:

  • Freezing
  • Canning
  • Dehydration.

Freezing:

To preserve your carrot using the freezing method, follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Wash your carrots to remove dirt
2. Pat the carrot dry with a clean cloth
3. Peel off the external part of the carrot
4. Cut or chop the carrot into smaller pieces
5. Boil some water
6. Pour the boiled water into a bowl
7. Pour the chopped carrots into the bowl of hot water
8. After 2 minutes, take out the carrots from the hot water
9. Then place the carrots into a bowl or bucket of ice
10. Wait till when the carrots placed in the ice bucket becomes cold
11. Take out the carrots and drain out excess water
12. Place the carrots in a cooking sheet, baking sheet or tray and put in the freezer for 8 hours
13. After 8 hours, transfer the carrots to a freezer bag with a ziplock or a freezer container.

Canning:

To preserve your carrot using the canning method, follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Wash your carrots to remove dirt
2. Pat the carrot dry with a clean cloth
3. Peel off the external part of the carrot
4. Cut or chop the carrot into smaller pieces
5. Pour the chopped carrots into a hot jar
6. Add a teaspoon of canning salt to the carrots in the hot jar
7. Pour some boiled water into the hot jar, remember to leave 1 – 2 inch headspace between the jar and the cover
8. Remove the air bubbles formed as a result of the hot water poured in the jar with a canning knife
9. Add the jar lid and rings, then seal
10. Process pints for 25 minutes, quarts for 30 minutes at 10 pounds pressure in a pressure canner.

Dehydration:

To preserve your carrot using the dehydration method, follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Wash your carrots to remove dirt
2. Pat the carrot dry with a clean cloth
3. Peel off the external part of the carrot
4. Cut or chop the carrot into smaller pieces
5. Immense the chopped carrots in hot water for 3 minutes
6. Place the carrots in a cooking or baking sheet and pat dry with a kitchen towel
7. Dry the carrots at 125 degrees with a food dehydrator or oven until it becomes brittle.
