In recent times, 95% of ladies between the ages of 18 to 50 own at least one wig (also known as human hair extension).
It can seem a little unreal because it’s almost impossible to tell people have wigs on and that’s because today’s wigs look more natural and beautiful than ever before.
7 Factors To Consider Before Buying A Wig
If you’re looking to purchase a wig, either for the first time or second, third, fourth, as the case may be, there are important things or factors to consider. They are;
1. Budget: You need to fix a budget range for the wig you intend to purchase so you don’t underspend or overspend, remember you have to save for the rainy days.
2. Quality: The budget fixed will determine the quality of the wig you can purchase. For instance, we have single drawn wigs, double drawn wigs and super double drawn wigs, some are even called virgin hair. The types of wigs mentioned vary in prices as some are of more quality than others.
3. Length: Wigs are always measured in inches, there are wigs measured as low as 8 inches, there are also some way higher than that. It is left to you to pick your desired length.
4. Size: Wigs are measured in grams, one bundle mostly weigh 100grams. To get a full head, you might need up to 250 grams to 300grams, some even go above 300grams, it all depends on the style you’re aiming to achieve.
5. Type: Wigs comes in different forms, we have straight, wavy, deep curls, pixie curls and so much more. Make a selection based on what you desire and aim to achieve.
6. Style: Right here, we have closure and frontal. Closure restricts you to styling your hair as centre or side parting only while with frontal you can achieve a lot of hairstyles. Mind you, the frontal is more expensive so you should make your selection based on your budget and what hairstyling you’re aiming to achieve.
7. Vendor: At this stage, we have seen a lot of things go wrong. Most people buy wigs online, that way they don’t get to see the wig physically before making payment. Several times, we have seen, read and heard cases of what I saw online was not what was delivered. Some vendors advertise wigs they don’t have in stock and go to deliver something else when a client places an order, so you have to be careful and make your research before trusting your money with a vendor.
How To Maintain Wigs
After successfully buying a good human hair wig, it is now left to give it proper maintenance.
Either very expensive or averagely priced, inadequate maintenance of a human hair wig will lead to early damage and shorten its lifespan.
1. Heat resistance: Too much heat from straightener, hot comb and other hair tools that emits heat can damage a wig, it can lead to breakage of the hair. Hence, it is important to get a heat resistant oil or serum and apply it to the wig before getting it involved in any heating activity.
2. Cleaning your wig: It is very important to wash your wig when dirty, keeping or wearing dirty wigs affects the texture of the wig. Wash with shampoo and conditioner, if you can’t do it yourself, seek professional help by taking it to a salon.
3. Storing your wig: Not only dirty wig affects the quality of a wig, but storing your wig badly can also mess up your wig by tangling it. Ensure you use a mannequin so that it is in an upright position.
4. Haircare product: Yes, all kinds of hair needs hair care products like serum, leave-in conditioner, e.t.c but are you using the right product. Using a bad hair product on your wig is going to damage your wig, ensure you speak with your wig vendor on the best product to use.
Remember, if you take good care of your wig, it will last a lot longer and you will look stunning!
