The 10 digits National Identification Number (NIN) has become a must-have for every citizen of Nigeria.

The National Identification Number is assigned to every individual that has duly completed his or her enrolment process into the National Identity Database (NIDB).

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that the National Identification Number (NIN) will be required for the following transaction: 

1. Obtaining international passport 

2. Opening bank accounts

3. Getting a driver’s license

4. Obtaining Permanent Voters’ Card

5. Participating in the National Health Insurance Scheme

6. Payment of taxes

7. Transactions related to your contributory pension scheme

8. Access to welfare and other relevant services from the Nigerian Government

9. Transactions with social security implications

10. Land transactions subject to the Land Use Act

11. And any other transactions NIMC may so prescribe and list in the Federal Government Gazette

Steps On How To Check Your NIN On MTN

Follow the steps mentioned below to check your National Identification Number (NIN) with your MTN sim:

Step 1: Dial *346#

Step 2: Next, you will be informed the USSD checking of NIN will cost a fee of 20 Naira, press 1 if you want to go ahead with it and 2 if you want to cancel 

Step 3: If you pressed 1, your 10 digits NIN will be displayed on your phone screen

How To Check NIN Number Online

Another way to check your National Identification Number (NIN) is on the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) website, follow the mentioned below to get started: 

1. Click here to visit the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) login portal

2. Enter your User ID (usually in 6 alphabets, 1 symbol and 4 digits)

4. Then enter the mobile OTP generated from the mobile app

5. Tap the login button 

6. Now click the print premium slip or standard slip and make payment to print your NIN slip. Your NIN number will be found on the printed slip
