How To Make Garden Egg Sauce

When looking for the best sauce that goes well with boiled yam, garden egg sauce has to be the answer.

The key ingredient used in preparing garden egg sauce is the garden egg itself.

Garden egg is an eggplant that serves as a food crop; In Nigeria, it starts flowering after 6 to 8 weeks of planting and it is often harvested after 2 to 3 months of planting.

In this article, I will be guiding you on how to prepare garden egg sauce and the ingredients needed.

Ingredients Needed To Make Garden Egg Sauce

1. Garden egg
2. Palm oil or groundnut oil
3. Onions
4. Pepper (tatashe, rodo)
5. Fish
6. Maggi
7. Salt
8. Crayfish.

Kitchen Tool & Equipment Needed To Make Garden Egg Sauce

1. Gas or stove
2. 2 Pots
3. Spoon (small and big)
4. Mortar and pestle
5. Knife
6. Sieve
7. Chopping board or tray
8. Bowl.

Steps On How To Make Garden Egg Sauce

1. Rinse your garden egg sauce properly
2. Remove the stalk in your garden egg
3. Blend your clean garden egg with a blender, pound with a mortar and pestle or boil till it is soft and mesh with a sieve
4. Cut onions into smaller sizes and split into 2, one to be pounded as explained in step 5 and the second to be fried as explained in step 8
5. Pound pepper and onions in a mortar until it is smooth
6. Pour the blended garden egg into a pot and cook till water dries up from it (you can skip this step if you pounded the garden egg in a mortar, only do this is you blended it)
7. Pour your palm oil or groundnut oil into another pot (do not let the oil get too hot, low heat is required)
8. Pour in your sliced onions onion and fry for about 2 minutes
9. Pour in the boiled garden egg that was set aside in step 7 and stir for about 2 minutes
10. Cover the pot to allow it to cook, open and stir occasionally
11. After the garden egg has started separating from the oil, pour in your blended pepper and iru (locust beans)
12. Also, add maggi, salt and smoked fish
13. Then cover and leave to simmer for few mins, then your garden egg sauce is ready.

Food You Can Eat Garden Egg Sauce With Are:

Boiled yam
Boiled plantain
Eko or corn jellos
White rice
Boiled potatoes.
